Technical Accounting Manager

Description As M&G Prudential come together to become the best loved and most successful savings and investments business, we are creating a unified Finance function to help manage the merger of the two businesses and the de-merger from the Prudential Group; creating a dynamic and well controlled Finance function for the future. Within the new unified Finance function we have an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Technical Accounting Manager. This role is responsible for owning the Group accounting policies and provision of advice to the business on IFRS accounting and S2 reporting treatment for initiatives such as new products and transactions. It is an exciting opportunity for an accountant who enjoys complex problem solving to be involved in establishing the basis for financial reporting for a new listed group. Main responsibilities of the role: To own the Group accounting policies and Group Accounting Manual To provide advice on the treatment under IFRS and Solvency 2 reporting for proposed initiatives including new products and transactions To analyse the impact of new accounting standards on the Group results and provide technical accounting support to the implementation To own the production of the IFRS and Solvency 2 reporting technical analyses required for the Group Audit Committee To liaise with the external auditors on IFRS and Solvency 2 reporting technical matters ensuring a timely resolution is reached To maintain effective working relationships with other teams in MGP Finance ensuring that Group technical accounting needs are communicated, understood and met To lead the Group Technical Accounting team ensuring a culture of effective performance management is embedded Work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customer outcomes and a reduction in M&G Prudential’s operational risk To be successful in this role you’ll: Be a qualified accountant with post qualification experience Have a detailed knowledge of IFRS and Solvency 2 reporting requirements Have a good knowledge of industry trends, best practice and developments, good networks / links with external bodies and individuals in the same field Have significant experience of working in a technical accounting team Have experience of financial reporting in a life and pensions business and asset management is also beneficial Have experience of leading teams and of providing leadership to technical specialists Have significant experience of insurance accounting, including requirements of UKGAAP and IFRS Have an ability to distil complex ideas, problems or requirements into simple, effective plans and solutions Have an ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and influence the demanding nature of these relationships Have an ability to manage tensions and conflicts to achieve outcomes that work for all parties.
