This role is available on a Fixed Term basis for 10 months About the role Are your great influencing skills having real impact? We have a unique opportunity available as the Head of Public Affairs and Regulatory Engagement, sitting in the heart of our Communications team here at Royal Mail. This role is Fixed Term for 10 months to cover maternity leave. You will have accountability for leading engagement on behalf of Royal Mail with Westminster, devolved bodies, local government, Whitehall, CITA, CITA Scotland, CCNI, Ofcom and EU institutions. Whilst representing Royal Mail’s interests – including reducing the regulatory burden, and securing the best possible quality of service regime – you will advise the senior executive team on developments that could provide opportunities or challenges to the business. You will influence Royal Mail’s strategy around ecommerce, letters and parcels, ensuring the business takes account of its various public policy commitments. You will also have accountability for engagement with EU, including during the negotiation of Brexit as well as respond to the concerns of MPs, select committees and ministers – and recommend appropriate actions within Royal Mail Group. This is a great opportunity to influence public policy and communications at the highest level, leading high profile and sensitive relationships on behalf of Royal Mail with real and immediate impact on both our corporate reputation and our commercial operation. What are we looking for? • Strong track record in Government relations, Public Policy or Corporate Affairs • Experience of working in a large, complex organisation • Experience of working in government at a senior level is desirable • Demonstrable experience of managing lobbying campaigns which have real impact on government policy • Excellent influencing and writing skills with fluent ability to convert complex information in to concise messaging • Financial, regulatory, environmental background would be an advantage • No experience in the postal industry is necessary About Us At Royal Mail we connect companies, customers and communities across the country, delivering a ‘one-price-goes-anywhere’, universal postal service to more than 30 million addresses.
